WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (5-7) suffered a doubleheader setback to Davis & Elkins (5-11) by scores of 6-2 and 9-6 Sunday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Davis & Elkins 6, Barton 2
The Senators' Anjolina Gutierrez (Phoenix, Ariz.) finished with a pair of hits and three runs batted in as Davis & Elkins broke a one-all tie with a three-run sixth inning to take the victory.
Gutierrez hit the game-winning single in the frame while Saylor Kneeland (Frederick, Md.) (3-4) earned the victory after going the distance despite 10 walks.

Elyse Brinn (Belhaven, N.C.) drove in a run with an RBI single but senior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) fell to 3-3 after taking the loss.
Game Two – Davis & Elkins 9, Barton 6
The Senators jumped out to an 8-1 advantage midway through the fourth inning and were able to hold on for the victory to complete the sweep.
Gutierrez led off the game with a home run and Jules Gutierrez (Perris, Calif.) added three hits and three runs batted in as the Senators won their third straight game.
Barton closed the margin to 8-6 highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore pitcher
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) in the fifth inning but couldn't get any closer. Massey, however, suffered the loss. Freshman outfielder
Makenzie Cyzick (Dayton, Va.) also drove in two runs in the losing effort for the home team.
On the mound, Davis and Elkins' Alex Uphold (Confluence, Pa.) improved to 3-1 on the season while Vanessa Hunt (Phoenix, Ariz.) pitched the final three innings for his fourth save of the year.
Barton hits the road to take on Elizabeth City State on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m., while Davis & Elkins takes on Virginia State on Tuesday in Petersburg, Va., at 3:00 p.m., in a doubleheader.
