TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton softball team (12-16, 3-5) fell twice to North Greenville (15-15, 3-3) in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader Saturday at Jan McDonald Field. The Bulldogs suffered 6-5 and 11-4 setbacks to the Crusaders.
Game One – North Greenville 6, Barton 5
The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-2 lead after five innings of play and were able to hold on for the victory. North Greenville's Lexis Wilkinson (Indian Land, S.C.) and Jenna Davis (Anderson, S.C.) both drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Barton sophomore first baseman
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) also drove in a pair of runs with a triple as part of a three-run sixth inning but the Bulldogs couldn't get any closer.
On the mound, North Greenville's Karley Green (Cowpens, S.C.) (7-8) went the distance to earn the win while Barton junior
Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) (2-4) was tagged with the loss.
Game Two – North Greenville 11, Barton 4
Trailing by a 4-2 score, the Crusaders took control with a six-run third inning and scored the final nine runs of the contest to complete the sweep. North Greenville's Brianna McRae (Simpsonville, S.C.) hit a home run while Ali Hartin (Travelers Rest, S.C.) drove in three runs for the home team in the victory.
Barton senior first baseman
Sloane Correa (Greenville, N.C.) and freshman outfielder
Makenzie Cyzick (Dayton, Va.) both finished with a pair of hits and an RBI in the setback.
North Greenville's Maddie Gore (Loris, S.C.) improved to 5-2 after picking up the win in relief while Barton senior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) (3-4) suffered the loss.
Barton next hosts UNC Pembroke in a league doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m., while North Greenville hosts Lees-McRae Tuesday in a doubleheader at one as well.
