MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (5-7, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 6-1 victory over Chowan (5-7, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at the Rose Family Complex.
A trio of Bulldogs – sophomore
Tilde Howeler (Stockholm, SWEDEN), freshmen
Alexandra Saez Lozano (Begur, SPAIN) and
Irma Granstam (Linkoping, SWEDEN) – prevailed at singles and doubles action to lead the visitors.
The duo of Howeler and Granstam – with their victory over Chowan's Maria Estinvil (Quebec, CANADA) and Manuela Jimenez (Bogota, COLUMBIA) by 6-3 score – increased their winning streak to five at first doubles.
Barton returns to the court on Tuesday to take on Francis Marion at home beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Chowan faces Mount Olive on Tuesday in the road in Mount Olive, N.C., at 2:00 p.m., as well.
