WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (12-9) stayed red hot with an 11-0 shutout win over Virginia State (9-8) Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field for its ninth straight victory.

Jacob Shapley (Sewell, N.J.) (1-2) allowed just one hit over five shutout innings go along with four strikeouts to earn his first victory of the year while sophomore catcher
Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season in the triumph.
Barton junior outfielder
Carelle Gonzalez (Bridgeton, N.J.) also drove in three runs as the Bulldogs scored in all eight innings in the victory. Four pitchers combined to strike out 12 batters for Barton in its first shutout on the year as well.
Virginia State's Joseph Hastings (Richmond, Va.) fell to 3-1 on the season after suffering the setback for the visitors.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Friday when the Bulldogs host Erskine at Nixon Field beginning at 3:00 p.m. Virginia State, meanwhile, hosts Claflin on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
