BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-14, 7-7) moved to .500 on the year in Conference Carolinas play with an 81-51 victory over Lees-McRae (1-18, 0-14) Saturday afternoon at Williams Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs, winners of three straight games, were led by freshman forward
Nyah Wilkins (Garner, N.C.) with a game-high 20 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists while junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 15 points as the visitors shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the field in the win.
Barton rolled out to a 47-26 halftime advantage and never looked back. The Bulldogs limited the Bobcats to just 30 percent shooting (19-of-63) from the floor and forced Lees-McRae into 16 turnovers in the victory.
Lees-McRae, who is still searching for its first win in league play this year, was led by Jala Holloman (Goldsboro, N.C.) with 14 points and Dianna Spence (Saltville, Va.) added a dozen points but the Bobcats were overmatched for most of the game.
Barton also held a 45-34 edge on the boards while 10 players found the scorebook for the Bulldogs.
Barton wraps up the three-game road stand on Wednesday when the Bulldogs travel to Pembroke, N.C., to take on UNC Pembroke beginning at 5:30 p.m., while Lees-McRae hosts Converse Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
