WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team moved back to .500 on the year at 4-4 with victories over Frostburg State (6-3) and Virginia Union (6-0) Sunday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Barton 6, Frostburg State 3

Emily Bell (Bunn, N.C.) finished with a pair of hits and two runs batted in as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after three innings of play on their way to the victory. Frostburg State is 3-1 on the year.
Bell opened the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and rounded out the scoring with a run-scoring double in the sixth frame. On the mound for Barton, senior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) (1-1) earned her first victory of the season while junior
Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) pitched the final three innings for her first save of the year.
For Frostburg State, Ashlynn Routzahn (Middletown, Md.) drove in a pair of runs while Jamie Roberts (Bryantown, Md.) (0-1) was tagged with the defeat.
Game Two – Barton 6, Virginia Union 0

Rilee Jones (Norfolk, Va.) (2-1) threw a no-hitter while striking out 14 batters as the Bulldogs won their second game on the day. Virginia Union now sits at 0-4 on the season.

Elyse Brinn (Belhaven, N.C.) finished with two hits and two runs batted in including the game-winning RBI double in the fourth frame which broke a scoreless tie. Meanwhile, Bell added two hits and two runs scored for the home team.
Virginia Union's Darnae Jones (Amelia, Va.) was tagged with the loss.
Barton next hosts Georgian Court on Saturday, March 4, at Noon, in a doubleheader. Frostburg State faces New Haven (11:00 a.m.) and Bowie State (3:00 p.m.) next Saturday in Murfreesboro, N.C., while Virginia Union plays at Chowan on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.
