BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (0-7, 0-1) opened the Conference Carolinas portion of its schedule with an 83-50 setback to Belmont Abbey (5-3, 1-0) Saturday afternoon at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders' Abigail Crain (Windermere, Fla.) was one of four players to score in double figures for Belmont Abbey with a team-high 16 points as the home team snapped a two-game losing streak.
Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 45-20 advantage at intermission and never looked back in the league triumph. The Crusaders' Catherine Hendershott (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 15 points and hit 10-of-12 from the charity stripe as the home team held a 38-22 edge on the boards and forced Barton into 15 turnovers in the victory.

Nyla Powell (Rocky Mount, N.C.) and sophomore guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) both scored a team-high 13 points in the losing effort.
The Crusaders also won the game at the free throw line – connecting on 22-of-24 attempts (92 percent) – and never trailed in the contest.
Barton returns home to take on Virginia State on Wednesday, December 6, beginning at 5:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium while Belmont Abbey travels to Anderson, S.C., to face Anderson next Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
