Winston-Salem State women’s basketball pulls away from Barton, 82-62, in Bulldogs’ home opener

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (0-3) let a close game get away in an 82-62 loss to Winston-Salem State (2-1) Wednesday evening in the Bulldogs' home opener at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Rams' Amaya Tucker (Winston-Salem, N.C.) led all scorers with 24 points and Kennedi Simmons (Greensboro, N.C.) added 18 points as the visitors used a 23-2 run over the third and fourth periods to take control.

Barton was paced by senior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with 19 points while sophomore forward Erial Owens (Powder Springs, Ga.) finished with 18 points including 16 in the first half in the losing effort.

Winston-Salem State shot 58 percent (33-of-57) from the floor and held a 43-32 edge in rebounding in the victory.  The Bulldogs were limited to just 25 percent (six-of-24) shooting from behind the arc.  Barton freshman guard Diavian Graham (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added 10 points off the bench in the losing effort.

Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Hartsville, S.C., to take on Coker beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Winston-Salem State hosts USC Aiken Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
