BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (7-6-5) saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 setback to UNC Pembroke (11-3-3) in the semifinals of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championship Friday afternoon at MacPherson Stadium at Bryan Park.
The Bulldogs were seeded fourth while the Braves were the top seed in the championship and will now move on to the title game to take on second-seeded Belmont Abbey (11-2-4) in the finals on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m. The Crusaders defeated third-seeded Francis Marion (8-5-4) by a 1-0 score in their semifinal match.
UNC Pembroke, which defeated Barton for the third time this season, received its lone goal from Ashleigh Harris (Oceanside, Calif.) in the 61st minute. Harris scored into the far post on a through ball from Maria Cancio (San Juan, PUERTO RICO), who was credited with the assist.
The Braves held a 19-7 edge in shots taken while Chiara Coppin (Monroe, N.C.) stopped a pair of shots for her fourth shutout of the season for UNC Pembroke. Barton senior goalkeeper
