WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (2-10, 2-3) fell in an extremely close Conference Carolinas contest Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium to North Greenville (3-9, 3-3), 78-76.
The Crusaders battled the Bulldogs to seven ties and five lead changes but were able to pull it out in the end behind 21 points and five treys from Abi Oates (Register, Ga.) while Maliyah Lockett (Blythewood, S.C.) added 18 points as North Greenville was able to complete the season sweep of Barton.
Barton was led by junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with a game-high 27 points but was the lone player to score in double figures for the home team. Three players – senior forward
Kaliyah Gladney (Greensboro, N.C.), junior guard
Payton Sutton (Charlotte, N.C.) and redshirt freshman guard
Skylar Quillet (Garner, N.C.) – all scored eight points in the losing effort for the home squad.
Barton had a chance at the end but missed several shots around the goal to tie the contest on the last possession as North Greenville was able to hold on for the win. Barton held a 44-34 advantage on the boards despite the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on conference rival Mount Olive on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., while North Greenville returns home to host King Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., in league action.
