Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Barton women’s basketball comes up just short to rival Mount Olive, 77-72

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (2-11, 2-4) fought to the end but fell to rival Mount Olive (9-7, 5-3), 77-72, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.

Four players reached double figures for the Trojans – including a game-high 21 points from Laila Anderson (Burlington, N.C.) – as the visitors held on to win despite turning the ball over 28 times.

Barton was led by junior guard Cierra Revelle (Sanford, N.C.) with a season-high 18 points to go along with four treys as the Bulldogs tried to rally at the end of the game but the Trojans were able to escape.

Trailing by a 73-61 score with just over a minute left in the contest, the Bulldogs scored eight straight points to cut the margin to four but the Trojans' Maleiya Hill (Durham, N.C.) hit a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to ice the game.

Mount Olive held a 42-35 advantage on the boards in handing Barton its third straight loss in the process.  Barton junior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 13 points in the losing effort.

In the next round of Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., the Bulldogs host Belmont Abbey while Mount Olive travels to Franklin Springs, Ga., to face Emmanuel.
