Barton men’s basketball beats Erskine, 70-55, at home to snap skid

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (12-8, 10-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 70-55 victory over Erskine (0-22, 0-14) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs, who came into the contest in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings, were paced by sophomore guard Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) with a game-high 25 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists as Barton kept Erskine winless on the season.  Boykin leads the squad in scoring at 21.2 points per contest this year.

Erskine was led by Jalen Canada (West Columbia, S.C.) with 18 points but the visitors hit just three-of-20 (15 percent) from behind the three-point line and turned the ball over 20 times in the setback.

Barton held a 53-48 edge with just over six minutes left in the game before a 12-4 run put the contest out of reach capped off by a jump shot from senior forward Trevon Spencer (Columbia, N.C.).  Spencer finished with 13 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots for the Bulldogs, who connected on 19-of-20 free three attempts in the win.

Barton hits the road for the first contest of a three-game road stand on Wednesday when the Bulldogs take on rival Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Meanwhile, Erskine hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., as well.
