FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (4-14, 4-7) lost to Francis Marion (12-6, 10-2) by an 82-58 score Tuesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at the Smith University Center.
The Patriots' Lauryn Taylor (Blythewood, S.C.) and Jasmine Stanley (North Myrtle Beach, S.C.) combined for 44 points as Francis Marion won its 10th straight game and remained tied for second place in the league standings with UNC Pembroke.
Taylor led all scorers with 23 points while Stanley added a double-double – 21 points and 10 rebounds – as the home team shot 51 percent (29-of-57) from the field in the win.
Barton was paced by junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with 15 points while junior guard
Payton Sutton (Charlotte, N.C.) added 11 points but the Bulldogs hit just four-of-20 from behind the three-point line in the setback.
The Patriots held a 38-29 lead at intermission then broke the contest open by scoring 29 points in the third stanza. Francis Marion hit 11-of-16 shots (69 percent) in the period.
Barton returns home to take on Erskine in a league contest Saturday at Noon at Wilson Gymnasium while Francis Marion hosts Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m.
