Barton women’s basketball downs King on the road, 78-74, to snap skid

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton women's basketball team (3-12, 3-5) got back on the winning track with a 78-74 victory over King (4-13, 4-5) in a Conference Carolinas game Monday evening at the Student Center Complex.

Barton junior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) was the story of the contest, finishing with a career-high 33 points to go along with seven treys as the Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak.

Barton freshman forward Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) added 17 points on seven-of-nine shooting and six steals as the visitors shot 50 percent for the game (27-of-54) and withstood a late King rally for the victory.

Tori Smiley (Indianapolis, Ind.) had a team-high 17 points for the Tornado, who rallied from a 72-63 deficit with three minutes left to cut the lead to one twice – 73-72 and 75-74 with under 30 seconds left – but the Bulldogs iced the game with three free throws.

Barton also forced King into 23 turnovers in picking up its first road win of the year.

Barton returns home to Wilson Gymnasium to take on UNC Pembroke on Wednesday in league action beginning at 5:00 p.m., while King hosts Belmont Abbey Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., as well.
