Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Barton women’s basketball iced out by league-leader Belmont Abbey, 50-40, Saturday at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (2-12, 2-5) went cold from the field in a 50-40 setback to Belmont Abbey (11-3, 8-0) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.

Belmont Abbey's Cate Schieber (New Albany, Ohio) scored a team-high 14 points while Taylor Stelley (Kissimmee, Fla.) added 11 points as the Crusaders held off the Bulldogs to remain unbeaten in league play.  Belmont Abbey also remained in sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

Barton freshman forward Nyah Wilkins (Garner, N.C.) came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points as well to go along with 14 rebounds for a double-double but the Bulldogs suffered their fourth straight loss.  Barton junior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added nine points in the defeat.

Belmont Abbey limited Barton to just 20 percent shooting (14-of-70) for the contest and including a one-for-17 mark in the fourth and final stanza to hold on for the victory.  The Bulldogs' defense was almost as stout, limiting the Crusaders to just 16-of-55 shooting (29 percent) for the contest while forcing 24 turnovers.

Barton looks to bounce back on Monday when the Bulldogs travel to Bristol, Tenn., to take on King in a league contest beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Belmont Abbey hosts Chowan Monday at 5:00 p.m.
