WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (12-7, 3-2), ranked No. 26 in NCAA Division II, defeated Southern Wesleyan (4-11, 2-4) by a 6-1 score Friday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest.
The Bulldogs swept the doubles action while freshmen
Kristoffer Staahlbrand (Oslo, NORWAY),
Johan Holgersson (Bromma, SWEDEN) and
Hannes Tylehed (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and senior
Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) all prevailed in both singles and doubles competition.
At second singles, Agudelo rallied to beat Southern Wesleyan's Julio Lopes Polesi (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) by a score of 1-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Holgersson has won seven straight matches in singles' play while Agudelo increased his singles' winning streak to five.
Barton hosts North Greenville in a league contest Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., while Southern Wesleyan travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan Saturday starting at Noon.
