ETTRICK, Va. – The Barton baseball team (19-16) picked up a 15-3 non-league, mid-week road victory over Virginia State (10-14) Wednesday afternoon at Whaley Colbert Field.
Barton junior outfielder
Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) drove in six runs including a bases-clearing double as part of a five-run first inning as the Bulldogs defeated the Trojans for the second time in nine days.
Barton senior second baseman
Dylan Scaranda (Galloway, N.J.) added a solo home run and finished with three hits and three runs batted in as the Bulldogs won for the sixth time in the last seven contests. Barton totaled 18 hits on the day as well.
On the mound, Barton senior
Nate McKenrick (Lake City, Pa.) (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win while Virginia State's Andrew Riddick (Suffolk, Va.) (1-3) was tagged with the loss.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Pembroke, N.C., to take on UNC Pembroke in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Virginia State, meanwhile, faces Mid-Atlantic Christian on Saturday in Elizabeth City, N.C., at 1:00 p.m., in a doubleheader as well.
