WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (24-22, 14-14) took down No. 5 North Greenville (39-8, 23-5), 8-5, Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas weekend series opener at Fleming Stadium.
Barton took command early with a pair of three-run home runs from junior second baseman
Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) and senior shortstop
Dylan Scaranda (Galloway, N.J.) in the bottom of the first and second innings, respectively. McIsaac also scored three times for the Bulldogs in the win.
The early runs helped negate a three-run home run from North Greenville's John Michael Faile (Boiling Springs, S.C.) in the top of the first inning. Faile added a second home run in the third frame and drove in all five of the Crusaders' runs in the setback.
Barton senior
Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) improved to 8-3 on the season earning the win. Hart struck out 10 batters to establish a new school single-season record for strikeouts with 100. Barton senior
Michael Yuille (Boyds, Md.) pitched the final three innings to earn the save. North Greenville's Jax Cash (Spartanburg, S.C.) fell to 4-2 after suffering the loss.
Barton and North Greenville wrap up the weekend series with a doubleheader at Nixon Field on Saturday beginning at Noon.
