FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (14-7, 5-2) won its fourth straight match with a 4-3 victory over Francis Marion (10-5, 4-3) Wednesday afternoon at Kassab Courts in a Conference Carolinas contest. In the latest NCAA Division II national poll, the Bulldogs are ranked No. 26 while the Patriots are No. 38.
Barton took the doubles' point thanks to the third doubles victory by freshmen
Johan Holgersson (Bromma, SWEDEN) and
Hannes Tylehed (Stockholm, SWEDEN) over the Patriots' Adam Ernberg (Solvesborg, SWEDEN) and Luis Lopez Sarasa (Gorraiz, SPAIN) by a 7-6 score.
The Bulldogs' first three singles players – freshman
Kristoffer Staahlbrand (Oslo, NORWAY), senior
Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) and junior
Philip Nordberg (Mariefred, SWEDEN), respectively – all won third sets to take the victories. Staahlbrand has won four straight singles matches at No. 1 for Barton.
Barton hosts Chowan on Tuesday, April 19, in a league contest Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., while Francis Marion takes on Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., on the road on Tuesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
