WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (17-15, 9-7) made it four victories in a row with a 7-3 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) (12-21, 4-12) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Fleming Stadium.
Barton senior
Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) improved to 5-2 on the year after throwing a complete game to go along with 13 strikeouts. Hart flirted with a shutout but the Lions plated three unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning aided by a pair of Bulldogs' errors.
Barton staked itself to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from sophomore outfielder
Carelle Gonzalez (Bridgeton, N.J.) and a two-run double from junior outfielder
Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) and never looked back.
Sophomore designated hitter
Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wis.) drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs, who limited the Lions to just three hits on the evening. Emmanuel's Dustin Frost (Woodstock, Ga.) had an RBI double while Colby Fields (McDonough, Ga.) (0-6) suffered the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend conference series with a doubleheader at Nixon Field on Saturday beginning at Noon. The Bulldogs will also celebrate Senior Day as well.
