WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (0-6, 0-3) suffered a 3-0 setback to Mount Olive (4-3, 2-1) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Trojans, winners of two straight contests, prevailed over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-10 and 25-20 and 25-14.
Mount Olive was led by Dominic Hagerty (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 10 kills while Tobi Azeez (Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA) added nine kills as the Trojans hit .354 for the match in the triumph. Jarrod Ferguson (Auckland, NEW ZEALAND) added 30 assists for Mount Olive in the win.
Barton was paced by sophomore outside hitter
Brandon Johnston (Hawkes Bay, NEW ZEALAND) with eight kills while freshman middle blocker
Benjamin Wiechert (Suffolk, Va.) added a half-dozen kills in the losing effort. Barton freshman setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) chipped in with 25 assists but the Bulldogs were hurt by 17 service errors and hit just .105 for the contest.
Barton remains at home to take on Lees-McRae Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts King (Tenn.) on Friday at 5:00 p.m., as well.
