WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College softball team (7-1) swept Elizabeth City State (0-4), 8-0 and 12-6, Saturday afternoon in an NCAA Division II doubleheader at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Barton 8, Elizabeth City State 0 (five innings)
Barton sophomore
Rilee Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) (2-1) threw a one-hit shutout while striking out nine batters and the Bulldogs run-ruled the Vikings.
Barton junior third baseman
Lindsey Massengill (Pine Level, N.C.) hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning and finished with two hits and three runs batted in to lead the home team. Junior first baseman
Sloane Correa (Greenville, N.C.) rounded out the scoring with a two-run single for the Bulldogs. Elizabeth City State's Casie Wright (Gasburg, Va.) suffered the loss.
Game Two – Barton 12, Elizabeth City State 6
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 advantage after three innings of play on their way to the doubleheader sweep of the Vikings. Barton scored four runs in each of the second and third frames, respectively.

Mikayla Rose (Beaufort, N.C.) and junior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) both hit two-run home runs and freshman
Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) improved to 3-0 on the year after allowing just one earned run in five innings of work. Rose finished with three runs batted in.
For Elizabeth City State, Cheyan Brassuer (Sanford, Fla.) drove in two runs and Karrigan Belangia (Currituck, N.C.) suffered the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on Catawba on Saturday, February 26, beginning at Noon in a doubleheader while Elizabeth City State faces Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Thursday starting at Noon.
