Barton men’s basketball gets by King, 69-68, for fifth straight victory

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton men's basketball team (14-12, 12-10) ran its winning streak to five games with a 69-68 victory over King (Tenn.) (12-14, 9-13) Saturday afternoon at the Student Center Complex in a Conference Carolinas game.

Barton sophomore guard Donaven Hairston (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Bulldogs with 22 points and hit the game-winning free throws with four seconds left as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Tornado.

The contest featured nine times and 10 lead changes.  Barton redshirt freshman guard Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added a double-double – 13 points and 13 rebounds – in the victory.

King was led by Michael Mays (Bristol, Tenn.) with a game-high 24 points off the bench including five three-pointers but the Tornado committed 18 turnovers and shot just 39 percent (25-of-64) in the losing effort.  King hit nine treys despite the setback.

Barton returns home to face ninth-ranked UNC Pembroke on Tuesday in its final regular season home game of the year beginning at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium while King hosts Converse on Tuesday starting at 7:30 p.m.
