WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (5-1) and Emory & Henry (3-1) split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Jeffries Field. The Wasps prevailed in the first contest by a 7-3 score while the Bulldogs won the nightcap, 3-1, to salvage the split.
Game One – Emory & Henry 7, Barton 3
The Wasps' Reece Chasteen (Lake City, Fla.) hit a two-run double in the third inning and a three-run home run in the fifth frame to lead the visitors to the win. On the mound, Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) allowed just one earned run while striking out eight batters in the complete game victory for Emory & Henry.

McCrae Knapp (Hertford, N.C.) and junior first baseman
Sloane Correa (Greenville, N.C.) drove in runs for the Bulldogs but sophomore
Rilee Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) suffered the loss. Jones allowed seven runs but only one was earned as the Bulldogs were hurt by a pair of errors.
Game Two – Barton 3, Emory & Henry 1
Senior shortstop
Mikayla Rose (Beaufort, N.C.) hit a two-run home run and Knapp drove in the game-winning run in the first frame as the Bulldogs rallied to split the doubleheader.
Barton freshman
Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) pitched into the seventh inning and earned the victory after allowing just one earned run with nine strikeouts while junior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) retired the final two batters to earn the save.
For Emory & Henry, Lydia Taylor hit a home run but Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) suffered the loss.
Barton next hosts Elizabeth City State on Saturday, February 19, beginning at Noon in a doubleheader while Emory & Henry hosts Elizabeth State tomorrow in a doubleheader at Noon.
