Barton softball forces home doubleheader split with Emory & Henry

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (5-1) and Emory & Henry (3-1) split a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Jeffries Field.  The Wasps prevailed in the first contest by a 7-3 score while the Bulldogs won the nightcap, 3-1, to salvage the split.

Game One – Emory & Henry 7, Barton 3
The Wasps' Reece Chasteen (Lake City, Fla.) hit a two-run double in the third inning and a three-run home run in the fifth frame to lead the visitors to the win.  On the mound, Avery Adkins (Goodview, Va.) allowed just one earned run while striking out eight batters in the complete game victory for Emory & Henry.

Barton senior catcher McCrae Knapp (Hertford, N.C.) and junior first baseman Sloane Correa (Greenville, N.C.) drove in runs for the Bulldogs but sophomore Rilee Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) suffered the loss.  Jones allowed seven runs but only one was earned as the Bulldogs were hurt by a pair of errors.
