WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-8, 1-2) fell just short to Chowan (6-2, 3-1) by a 60-54 score Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Hawks, winners of three straight contests, were led by Imani Hickman (Huntington, W.Va.) with a game-high 17 points while Tyaysia Sharpe (Statesville, N.C.) added 10 points as Chowan stayed near the top of the league standings with the win.
Barton was paced by junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with 13 points and freshman forward
Nyah Wilkins (Garner, N.C.) also scored in double figures – totaling 12 points – but the Bulldogs suffered their fourth straight loss.
The Hawks held a 34-26 edge at halftime and kept the advantage the rest of the way. Holding a 53-52 lead with just under 90 seconds left, Sharpe hit a key three-pointer to give the visitors a cushion and Chowan was able to stay ahead until the final buzzer.
