RALEIGH, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (0-3) suffered a 67-57 loss to Saint Augustine's (0-1) Tuesday evening at Emery Gymnasium.
The Falcons, playing in their season opener, were led by Dasmine Kasey (Roanoke, Va.) with a game-high 18 points while Ariyanna Brown (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points off the bench as four players reached double figures for the home team in the win.
Barton was led by junior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with 12 points but the visitors couldn't hold a 19-10 advantage early in the second quarter. Freshman guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) also scored 10 points for the visitors, who were hurt by 25 turnovers in the setback.
With the score tied at 32-all midway through the third quarter, the Falcons put together a 7-0 run to take the lead for good capped off by a three-pointer by Brown at the 3:35 mark of the period. Barton sophomore guard
Jada Battle (Pinetops, N.C.) added nine points on four-of-five shooting in the loss.
Barton looks to pick up its first win of the year on Thursday when the Bulldogs host Coker at Wilson Gymnasium in their opener beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Saint Augustine's hosts Kentucky State Friday at 6:00 p.m.
