WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (3-10, 2-4) downed Converse (6-12, 3-7) by a 3-1 score Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs, playing for only the second time this year at home, rallied from a set down to defeat the Valkyries by scores of 22-25, 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21.
Sophomore right side hitter
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) and senior outside hitter
Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) combined for 27 kills in the victory. Haaga had 14 kills while Gambill added 13 kills and nine digs as the Bulldogs snapped a four-match losing streak.
Sophomore middle hitter
Sarah Burton (Aynor, S.C.) finished with eight kills of her own to go along with six blocks as the Bulldogs held a 54-39 edge in kills in the win. Converse's Jasmine Finkley (Blythewood, S.C.) led the visitors with 12 kills but the Valkyries lost their fifth straight match.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas matches on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Barton hosts Southern Wesleyan while Converse travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to take on Chowan.
