TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (15-1, 11-1), ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, upped its winning streak to nine games with a dominant 74-41 victory over North Greenville (4-13, 4-9) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Hayes Gymnasium.
Sophomore guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior All-American center
Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored a game-high 17 points as the Bulldogs raced to a 37-18 lead at intermission and never looked back in the triumph.
Peterkin, who ranks fifth on the Bulldogs' all-time scoring list with 1,559 points, added 13 rebounds for her seventh double-double on the year.
Barton limited North Greenville to just 24 percent shooting (15-of-62) for the game and forced 23 turnovers in the victory. Haylee Luttrell (Deer Lodge, Tenn.) led the home team with 17 points but was the lone Crusader to score in double figures.
The Bulldogs also improved to a perfect 10-0 away from Wilson Gymnasium this season and remained in sole possession of second place in the league standings.
Barton stays on the road to face Belmont Abbey on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., in a league contest at Belmont, N.C., while North Greenville plays Southern Wesleyan Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as well in Central, S.C.
