Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 20 Barton women’s basketball keeps rolling with 58-52 win over Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton College women's basketball team (13-1, 9-1) ran its winning streak to seven games and stayed in the thick of the Conference Carolinas race with a 58-52 victory over Emmanuel (Ga.) (3-10, 3-7) Saturday afternoon at the Shaw Athletic Center.

Barton senior forward Jami Tham (Arlington, Va.) led the visitors with 17 points to go along with 11 rebounds while sophomore guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added a dozen points as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Lions.  The Bulldogs are ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II and remained in second place in the league standings.

The Bulldogs, who completed their five-game road stand undefeated, also received a double-double performance from senior All-American center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.).  Peterkin totaled 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who held a 42-36 edge on the boards and remained unbeaten away from home this season at 8-0.

The Lions were led by Jeanetta Elder (Athens, Ga.) with 17 points but the home team shot just 31 percent (20-of-65) from the field in the losing effort.  Emmanuel also hit just three-of-11 from the behind-point line.

Barton finally returns home to take on Erskine on Monday at 5:00 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium while Emmanuel faces Belmont Abbey at home on Tuesday starting at 5:00 p.m.
