WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (1-0) opened the Fall 2021 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Newberry (0-1) Thursday afternoon at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex. The win was the first under new Bulldogs mentor

Barton received goals from senior midfielder
Evie Kenna (Aldershot, ENGLAND) and freshman forward
Hannah Johnson (Oneonta, N.Y.) while senior goalkeeper
Kristin Davis (Willow Spring, N.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal after stopping two shots in the win.
Kenna, a First-Team All-Conference Carolinas honoree, scored in the 52nd minute after receiving a touch pass from freshman midfielder
Cambria Oldham (Southport, N.C.) and finishing a shot 10 yards out from the top of the key.
Johnson rounded out the scoring after receiving an over-the-top free kick from senior defender
Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) and shooting past the keeper – who came out of the box – for the goal. Oldham and Johnson were both credited with assists.
Barton held a 20-12 advantage in shots taken while Newberry's Jayleen Gant (Poway, Calif.) suffered the loss in goal after playing the second half and tallying three saves.
Barton remains at home to take on Wingate on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m., at the Bulldogs Athletic Complex while Newberry hosts Mount Olive on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
