Barton baseball ends season with setback to North Greenville on the league tournament’s final day

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (19-20) saw its season come to an end with a 13-2 loss to No. 15 North Greenville (32-11) Sunday afternoon on the final day of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship.

North Greenville, the second seed in the tournament, will now face top-seeded and fifth-ranked Mount Olive (35-9) later in the day in the championship game.

North Greenville scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back as the Crusaders avenged an 11-9 loss to Barton on Thursday earlier in the tournament.

Three players – John Michael Faile (Boiling Springs, S.C.), Pat Monteith (Charleston, S.C.) and Douglas Angeli (Spartanburg, S.C.) – all hit home runs for the Crusaders while Monteith drove in three runs in the win.

Senior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) led the Bulldogs with three hits and an RBI in the setback.  North Greenville's Ethan Garner (Jefferson, Ga.) improved to 6-1 with the complete game victory.  Garner scattered 10 hits while allowing just one earned run in addition to nine strikeouts.  Barton junior Jared Davis (Poquoson, Va.) fell to 3-2 after taking the loss.

Junior third baseman Dylan Scaranda (Galloway, N.J.) earned all-tournament honors for the Bulldogs.
