WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (8-1) won both games in Pool Play B and advanced to the semifinals of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship after shutting out Emmanuel (Ga.) (4-5), 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Barton is seeded second in the tournament while the Lions were the seventh seed. The Bulldogs will now advance to the semifinals to face third-seeded Chowan (7-1-1) on Friday at 7:00 p.m., at the Florence Soccer Complex in Florence, S.C.
The Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match when junior midfielder
Ludovic Rocha (Boulogne Billancourt, FRANCE) finished off a penalty kick at the 56:47 mark of the contest. The goal was Rocha's fourth of the season.
Barton, which defeated Emmanuel for the second time this season, held a 14-9 edge in shots taken while winning its fifth straight contest.
In goal, sophomore
Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) earned his fourth shutout of the year. Randolph made three saves increased his scoreless streak to 430:18 minutes. Emmanuel's goalkeeper, Giuliano Palma (Napoli, Italy), suffered the loss despite six saves.
