WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (9-10) saw its season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to King (12-12) Tuesday evening in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Tornado won by scores of 25-21, 27-25 and 25-20 and beat the Bulldogs for the second time this year. Barton is the fourth seed in the league tournament while King is seeded fifth.
King was led by Joshua Kim (Garden Grove, Calif.) with 11 kills while J.T. Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) added 31 assists and three digs in the win. The Tornado also totaled 13 blocks as a team while the Bulldogs were hurt by 14 service errors.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Nathan Chaparro (Glendale, Ariz.) with 10 kills and senior outside hitter
Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) and senior middle blocker
Absalon Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) with nine kills each in the losing effort.
King will now host top-seeded Mount Olive (12-3) in the semifinals of the conference tournament Saturday beginning at Noon in Bristol, Tenn., at the Student Center Complex.
