Barton women’s soccer recovers with road triumph over King, 4-1, in regular season finale

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton women's soccer team (3-3-1, 3-3-1) rebounded from a tough loss two nights ago to down King (1-4-2, 1-4-2), 4-1, in the regular season finale in Conference Carolinas action Sunday afternoon at Parks Field.

Barton senior midfielder Evie Kenna (Aldershot, ENGLAND) scored the first two goals of the match – her first two of the season as well - and the Bulldogs never looked back in a dominant victory.  The Bulldogs held a 19-2 advantage in shots taken while junior midfielder Hailey Russell (Jacksonville, N.C.) added her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the win in the 60th minute of the match.

Barton freshman defender Jessica Hoyt (Gastonia, N.C.) rounded out the scoring at the 77:01 mark of the contest with her first collegiate goal.   Senior goalkeeper Megan Bolick (Salisbury, N.C.) earned the win for the Bulldogs while King's Lucy Barrientos (Greenville, S.C.) suffered the loss in goal.  Barrientos stopped three shots on the afternoon.

King's Anya Gross (Whangarei, NEW ZEALAND) found the back of the net for the lone goal of the match for the home team.

Barton and King will next compete in the Spring 2021 Conference Carolinas Women's Soccer Championship.  The Bulldogs are the seventh seed and will host tenth-seeded Southern Wesleyan in the opening round of pool play on Wednesday, April 21, while eighth-seeded King hosts No. 9 Lees-McRae on Wednesday, April 21, as well.
