WILSON, N.C. – The Barton football team rallied in the second half to down Louisburg, 24-7, in a scrimmage Sunday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field. The Bulldogs won their first unofficial game since restarting the program after a 70-year hiatus.
Barton, trailing by a 7-3 score at halftime, outscored the Hurricanes by a 21-0 margin in the second half and was aided by its defense. The Bulldogs picked off five passes including two returned for touchdowns: 27 yards by freshman defensive back
Mike Webb (Winterville, N.C.) and 77 yards by freshman defensive back
Kendarius Jenkins (Tarboro, N.C.) in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to round out the scoring.
Barton took the lead for good at 10-7 when sophomore quarterback
Devon Brooks (Raleigh, N.C.) found redshirt freshman wide receiver
Anton Popov-Tropina (Raleigh, N.C.) in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 2:41 remaining in the stanza.

Malcolm Wilson, Jr. (Salisbury, N.C.) led the ground game with 69 yards while freshman linebacker
Shane Perry (Apex, N.C.) spearheaded the defense with eight tackles. Louisburg's Jacquez Robinson (Charlotte, N.C.) scored the Hurricanes' lone points with a 15-yard touchdown run to cap a five-play, 98-yard drive in the second quarter.
Louisburg's Trey Whitley (Kenly, N.C.) threw for 121 yards while Da'Qon Stewart (Huntersville, N.C.) caught four passes for 103 yards in the losing effort. Barton also produced three quarterback sacks.
The game concludes both teams' abbreviated spring seasons.
