WILSON, N.C. – Barton (10-12, 9-7) and Erskine (13-11, 10-6) split a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader Wednesday at Fleming Stadium. The Flying Fleet won the first contest by a 10-6 score while the Bulldogs salvaged the split with a victory in the nightcap, 5-4.
Game One – Erskine 10, Barton 6
Erskine's Livan Reinoso (Hazelton, Pa.) hit a three-run home run and finished with five runs batted in to lead the Flying Fleet to the win. In addition, Reinoso broke a two-all tie with a two-run double in the fourth frame while Cody Forster (Okinawa, JAPAN) hit a solo home run for the visitors.
Barton senior catcher
Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) hit a two-run double and drove in four runs despite the loss.
On the mound, Erskine's Thomas Farrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (1-0) earned the win in relief while Barton senior
Shawn Harrison (Queens, N.Y.) fell to 1-1 after suffering the loss.
Game Two – Barton 5, Erskine 4
The Bulldogs rallied from a 4-0 deficit to force the split with the Flying Fleet. Barton scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good highlighted by a pair of Erskine errors which led to three Barton unearned runs.
On offense, Olson had another RBI double while junior outfielder
Peyton Creech (Zebulon, N.C.) hit a solo home run in the victory. Barton sophomore
Brett Widerman (Wilmington, N.C.) (2-1) earned the win while freshman
William Bryant (Raeford, N.C.) pitched three scoreless innings for his first save of the year.
For Erskine, Trevor Lesane (Tar Heel, N.C.) drove in a pair of runs but Farrell (1-1) was tagged with the loss.
Barton hits the road to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Friday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Erskine takes on Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C., on Friday starting at 4:00 p.m.
