CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (7-8) suffered a 3-1 setback to Queens (12-9) Saturday evening at Curry Arena. The Royals won by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 30-32 and 25-15 and avenged an earlier regular season loss to the Bulldogs.
Queens was led by Tristan Santoyo (Diamond Bar, Calif.) with 14 kills and four service aces as the Royals won their fifth straight match.
Barton was led by sophomore outside hitter
Nathan Chaparro (Glendale, Ariz.) with a match-high 23 kills while junior outside hitter
Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) added 15 kills and eight digs despite the setback. The Bulldogs did pull out the third set in thrilling fashion to avoid the sweep but the visitors were hurt by 17 service errors.
Queens' Josh Bragg (Rock Hill, S.C.) added a double-double – 12 kills and 10 digs – as the home team hit .342 for the match.
Barton returns to Wilson Gymnasium to face North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas contest on Friday beginning at 7:30 p.m., while Queens takes on Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
