Barton baseball sweeps home conference doubleheader from King, 8-4 and 5-4

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (8-9, 7-5) swept a Conference Carolinas doubleheader from King (Tenn.) (8-9, 7-7), 8-4 and 5-4, Saturday afternoon at Nixon Field.

Game One – Barton 8, King (Tenn.) 4
Barton senior catcher Brayden Olson (Spokane, Wash.) went four-for-four with four runs batted in while junior Alex Hart (Raleigh, N.C.) (2-3) threw his second straight complete game in the victory.  Hart struck out five batters in the win while the Bulldogs jumped out to a 7-1 advantage after three innings of play and held on for the triumph.

King's Zachary Thomas (Culpeper, Va.) drove in three runs for the visitors while Braden White (Marion, Ill.) fell to 1-2 after taking the loss.

Game Two – Barton 5, King (Tenn.) 4
Barton sophomore pinch hitter Bradley McLean (Hurst, Texas) came through with the game-winning, run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Bulldogs rallied from a 4-0 deficit to complete the sweep.

Austin Meyer (Stafford, Va.) finished with a pair of hits and an RBI for the visitors, who couldn't hold a 4-0 advantage after three-and-a-half innings of play.  King's Jake DeLisi (Bristow, Va.) (0-2) was the hard-luck loser, allowing just three earned runs while pitching into the eighth inning.

Barton senior Colby Warren (Roanoke Rapids, N.C.) (1-0) was credited with the win after retiring the final four batters of the game.  Junior third baseman Dylan Scaranda (Galloway, N.J.) added a two-run triple and finished with four runs scored on the day for the Bulldogs.

Barton and King wrap up the weekend series with a league doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon at Nixon Field.
