FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton College men's tennis team (1-1) fought valiantly but fell to sixth-ranked Lander (2-0), 4-2, in the finals of the City of Florence Invitational Sunday afternoon at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center.
Barton lost despite victories by junior
Diego Agudelo (Bogata, COLOMBIA) and senior
Alessandro Gerbino (Borlange, SWEDEN) at first and fifth singles, respectively. Agudelo defeated Lander's Adam Elliget (Charleston, S.C.) by a scores of 6-1 and 6-0 while Gerbino downed the Bobcats' Matthew De Groot (Perth, AUSTRALIA), 6-1, 6-2.
Barton advanced to the championship after downing Bluefield State by a 4-3 score in the semifinals despite losing the point in doubles. Singles victories for the Bulldogs against the Blues came from Agudelo, Gerbino, sophomore

Barton returns to the court on Saturday, February 13, to take on Augusta in Sumter, S.C., beginning at Noon while Bluefield State travels to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Lincoln Memorial Sunday at Noon.
