MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (5-4, 3-3) came up just a bit short in a five-set thriller to rival Mount Olive (6-1, 5-1), 3-2, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Kornegay Arena.
The Trojans prevailed by scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 23-25 and 15-12 and rebounded after their lone defeat last Saturday on the road to North Greenville.
Mount Olive was led by an all-around performance from Tobi Azeez (Melbourne, Victoria, AUSTRALIA), who totaled 20 kills, 13 digs and three services.
Barton was powered by the play of junior outside hitter
Adrian Iglesias (Guaynabo, PUERTO RICO) and sophomore outside hitter
Nathan Chaparro (Glendale, Ariz.) with 23 and 19 kills, respectively. The Bulldogs lost despite holding a considerable edge in kills (69-49) but were hurt by 20 service errors. Barton junior setter
Moses Kresch (Hershey, Pa.) added 55 assists in the setback as well.
Barton next travels to Due West, S.C., to take on Erskine on Sunday beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Olive faces Emmanuel (Ga.) in Franklin Springs, Ga., on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
