Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Barton men’s basketball bounces back with 81-68 road victory over Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (4-4, 2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak with an 81-68 victory over Chowan (0-7, 0-5) Tuesday night in a Conference Carolinas game at the Hawks Athletic Center and Bob Burke Court.

Barton redshirt freshman guard Marcus Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) finished with a team-high 19 points and was one of five players to score in double figures for the Bulldogs, who prevailed in their first league contest on the road this season.

Barton sophomore guard Jett Fortuny (Cary, N.C.) added 14 points to go along with four treys including three three-pointers in the second half as the Bulldogs scored 49 points after halftime to pull away for the win.  Barton held a 32-31 lead at intermission.

With the score tied at 59-all with just under nine minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs took control with a 17-0 run to put the contest away over the next six-plus minutes.  Boykin hit the game-winning field goal at the 8:17 mark of the second half.

Freshman forward Kanayo Nwosu (Raleigh, N.C.) added a double-double – 10 points and 10 rebounds – for the Bulldogs, who shot 50 percent (32-of-64) from the field.  Chowan, still searching for its first victory of the year, was led by Daylen Askew (Ahoskie, N.C.) with a game-high 23 points.  The Bulldogs also forced the Hawks into 15 turnovers.

Barton is off until Saturday, December 18, when the Bulldogs host Lees-McRae at Wilson Gymnasium in a league game beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Chowan hosts Francis Marion on Wednesday, December 15, at 4:00 p.m.
