CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (9-1, 5-1) entered the winter break on a high note with a dominant win over Southern Wesleyan (2-7, 2-4), 93-53, Monday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II, were led by sophomore guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.). Walker finished with a game-high 22 points and hit five of the Bulldogs' 11 three-pointers in the win.
Barton senior center and two-time league player of the year
Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 19 points as the Bulldogs raced to a 24-7 lead after just one quarter of play and never looked back in registering their third straight victory. Senior forward
Jami Tham (Arlington, Va.) added 12 points in the triumph as well.
Southern Wesleyan's Brittany Mack (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished with 17 points but was the lone Warriors' player to score in double figures as the home team got down early and the deficit was simply too great to overcome.
Barton returns to the court on Tuesday, January 4, at 5:00 p.m., when the Bulldogs host Erskine at Wilson Gymnasium in a league contest while Southern Wesleyan hosts Lees-McRae on the same day starting at 5:30 p.m.
