WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (8-7) saw its season come to an end with a 1-0 setback to Belmont Abbey (6-9-2) in the First Round of the 2021 Conference Carolinas Championship Wednesday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field. The Bulldogs were the fifth seed in the tournament.
Belmont Abbey, the eighth seed in the championship, will now travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on fourth-seeded Lees-McRae (9-5-2) on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., in the quarterfinals.
The Crusaders scored the lone goal of the match at the 63:23 mark of the second half when Davis McBee (Gastonia, N.C.) finished off an over-the-top pass from Mikey Puskar (Concord, N.C.) in the left side of the net.
Puskar led McBee to his team-leading sixth goal of the year while both teams totaled seven shots.
Belmont Abbey's goalkeeper, Ben Knust (Omaha, Neb.) earned his third shutout of the year while junior goalkeeper
Jacob Randolph (Metairie, La.) suffered the loss despite a pair of saves on the afternoon.
