AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Barton women's basketball team (2-0) stayed perfect on the year with an 83-61 triumph over Augusta (1-1) Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Peach Belt Conference/Conference Carolinas Crossover at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs were led by senior center and All-American
Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 26 points and 12 rebounds while senior guard
Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) added 22 points in the win. Peterkin also moved up to seventh place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,339 points.
Barton, who won over Georgia College by an 81-49 score Friday in the season opener, put the contest away by halftime when the Bulldogs rolled to a 49-26 advantage.
Barton held a 38-19 edge on the boards and shot 53 percent (33-of-62) from the floor in the win. The Bulldogs also received an 18-point, seven-rebound and six-assist performance from senior center
Jami Tham (Arlington, Va.).
Augusta was led by Kennedi Manning (Stone Mountain, Ga.) with 12 points but the Jaguars turned the ball over 19 times in the losing effort.
Barton returns home to take on Shaw in its 2021-22 home opener on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., while Augusta hosts Claflin on Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
