AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-0) got its season off to a rousing start with an 81-49 win over Georgia College (0-1) Friday evening in the Peach Belt Conference/Conference Carolinas opener at Christenberry Fieldhouse on the campus of Augusta University.
Barton senior guard
Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) led all scorers with 21 points to go along with six rebounds and six assists while senior center
Jami Tham (Arlington, Va.) added 16 points as the Bulldogs raced to a 24-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the victory.
The Bobcats' Ashyia Willis (Gainesville, Ga.) finished with a team-high 13 points while Harper Vick (Marietta, Ga.) added 11 points but Georgia College missed all seven three-point attempts and was done in by 34 turnovers in the setback.
Barton sophomore guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 15 points as the Bulldogs scored 22 of the game's first 26 points. Barton also hit six three-pointers and totaled 22 steals in the win. Four players reached double figures for the Bulldogs as well.
On the final day of the Crossover on Saturday, Barton will take on the host school, Augusta, at 3:00 p.m., while Georgia College faces Southern Wesleyan beginning at 1:00 p.m.
