WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-13, 4-10) saw its Senior Night spoiled with a 3-2 setback to Chowan (5-19, 2-11) Friday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Hawks won by scores of 21-25, 27-25, 24-26, 25-17 and 15-9 and rallied to take the fourth and fifth sets to snap a 12-match losing streak.
Chowan's Madison Hill (Spring, Texas) finished with 16 kills while Anixa Rosa-Martinez (San Lorenzo, PUERTO RICO) added 14 kills and 10 digs as the Hawks avenged an earlier loss to the Bulldogs at home.
Barton was led by senior setter
Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) with 47 assists and 15 digs – her 11th double-double on the year – while freshman middle blocker
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) and sophomore right side hitter
Caroline Schoonover (Lutz, Fla.) added 18 and 17 kills, respectively, in the setback.
The Bulldogs were also hurt by 15 service errors in suffering their fourth straight loss.
Barton will look to rebound next Friday, November 5, when the Bulldogs travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Converse beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Chowan hosts Francis Marion Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
