Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Barton women’s basketball wins third straight, 81-74 over rival Mount Olive

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (5-1, 5-1) made it three victories in a row with an 81-74 victory over rival Mount Olive (3-3, 3-3) Thursday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.

Barton freshman guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) scored a team-high 22 points – including 18 in the first half – while senior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) added a double-double – 15 points and 14 rebounds – in the victory.  Peterkin also moved into second place all-time on the school's rebounding list with 1,059 boards.

Mount Olive was led by Azariah Fields (Wilmington, N.C.) and Ivanda Hudjakova (Valmiera, LATVIA) with 23 points each despite the loss.  The Bulldogs' defense stiffened in the final quarter, limiting the Trojans to just two-of-15 (13 percent) shooting from the floor.  Mount Olive had its three-game losing streak snapped despite hitting nine treys on the night.

Barton junior guard Akira Wiggins (Knightdale, N.C.) chipped in with 13 points to go along with six assists and the Bulldogs were able to distance themselves from the Trojans thanks to 21 made free throws.

Barton remains at home to take on Converse on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., in league action at Wilson Gymnasium while Mount Olive hosts Southern Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
