WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College women's basketball team (4-1, 4-1) defeated Lees-McRae (3-2, 3-2) for the second time in as many days on Saturday afternoon, 87-43, in a Conference Carolinas contest inside Wilson Gymnasium.
Four players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs – led by senior All-American center
Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 18 points and 14 rebounds – and Barton once again built a big halftime lead and never looked back.
Barton took a 40-21 advantage into intermission and led by as many as 46 points late in the second half. Barton freshman guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 16 points and the Bulldogs' defense stifled the Bobcats. Lees-McRae hit just one-of-19 from behind the three-point line and turned the ball over 22 times in the setback.
Lees-McRae's Destiny Johnson (Iron Station, N.C.) was the lone player to score in double figures for the visitors, finishing with 13 points. Barton junior forward
Zanah Boyd (Cary, N.C.) came off the bench to score 14 points as well.
Barton remains at home to take on rival Mount Olive on Thursday at 5:00 p.m., in a league game at Wilson Gymnasium while Lees-McRae visits Belmont Abbey on Thursday starting at 5:00 p.m., as well.
