BELMONT, N.C. – The Barton College men's basketball team (0-2, 0-2) fell to Belmont Abbey (3-1, 1-0), 77-58, in a Conference Carolinas game at the Wheeler Center.
The Crusaders were led by Sean Halloran (Orlando, Fla.) with a game-high 21 points and was one of four players to score in double figures for the home team. Belmont Abbey jumped out to a 35-20 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 27 points in the second half – 58-31 with just over nine minutes left.
Barton was paced by senior guard
David Campbell (Severn, Md.) with 15 points while sophomore guard
Brandon Burford (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points in the losing effort. The Bulldogs were limited to just three-of-22 (14 percent) shooting from behind the three-point line.
Belmont Abbey, meanwhile, was hot from the field, shooting 50 percent (32-of-63) for the game and held a 42-25 edge on the boards. Mario Lacy, Jr. (Cleveland, Ohio) chipped in with 14 points on seven-of-eight shooting.
Barton and Belmont Abbey will play again on the Crusaders' home court on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
