Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (9-13, 7-8) went on the road and picked up a victory over rival Mount Olive (14-9, 8-7), 90-81, Wednesday evening in Conference Carolinas action at Kornegay Arena.
Barton senior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) led all scorers with 30 points and hit 11-of-12 free throws while junior forward Blake Burdack (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) added a double-double – 17 points and 10 rebounds – in the win. Boykin also moved into fourth place on Barton's all-time scoring list with 1,508 points.
Mount Olive placed four players in double figures including Michael Brown (Winchester, Va.) with a team-high 24 points despite the setback. With the score tied at 59 with 10:35 left in the contest, Barton freshman guard Jayson Robinson (Amityville, N.Y.) hit the game-winning three-pointer and the visitors stayed ahead the rest of the way.
The free throw line was also the difference as the Bulldogs hit 31-of-37 from the charity stripe compared to Mount Olive's nine-of-12 performance. Nine players also found the scoring sheet for Barton.
In the next round of Conference Carolinas games on Saturday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m., Barton will host Lees-McRae after a lengthy road stand while Mount Olive remains at home to take on King (Tenn.).
